Designed for Wellness

From the inside out, our textiles embody health and wellbeing.

As the science around healthcare advances, so too does our understanding of how architecture affects providers, patients, and caregivers. Designtex believes in balancing form, function, and feeling in healthcare spaces through exceptionally designed, high-performance materials.

Our healthcare offerings are grounded in beauty and utility, offering research-informed products that are suitable for hospitals, clinics, medical offices, nursing homes, senior and communal living, among other settings.

Blending Art and Science

Designtex has been a leader in the healthcare market for over 35 years. Our design process considers the wellbeing of patients, staff and caregivers to develop solution-guided applied materials that balance visual and tactile qualities with technical rigor.

Research has proven a tight link between the design of a space and how we feel and function within it. In healthcare spaces, this leads to better patient outcomes. Every material choice contributes to creating a healing and hygienic environment.

Healthcare Without Harm

Sustainability is one of Designtex’s core values. We are dedicated to leading the industry toward a healthier future. This way, our textiles contribute positively to both patient safety and environmental health in their composition and appearance.

All the textiles in our healthcare offering meet the stringent requirements of California Proposition 65, LEED, and WELL, most meet REACH and the Healthier Hospitals initiative, and are free of antimicrobials, flame retardants, and phthalates, which can have negative environmental and health impacts.

As best-practices in healthcare design rapidly evolve, Designtex is an industry-leading resource for beautiful, hard-working textiles that meet and exceed the demands of the moment.

Materials Overview

Designtex offers four types of coated textiles ideal for fast turnaround, easy maintenance, and high durability, along with wovens that can withstand the demands of healthcare while offering the aesthetic and tactile qualities you might find in residential and hospitality spaces.

For projects that require excellent performance and value. Made from a synthetic polymer called polyvinyl chloride (PVC), these textiles offer dependable performance at a lower cost. Designtex vinyl textiles do not contain Proposition 65 phthalates nor require Prop 65 warning labels.

For projects that match performance with sustainability. Made using only the highest grade polycarbonate resin, our durable polyurethane textiles offer a high level of sustainability at a mid-range price—and are resistant to hydrolysis at double and often triple the industry standard. EPU options have a water-based construction made without solvents or plasticizers.

For projects that strive for next-level sustainability. Offering the same high performance as our standard polycarbonate-based polyurethane, these textiles take the next step towards sustainability by replacing some of the traditional non-renewable content with a biobased polymer.

For projects that demand it all—without compromise. Made from a synthetic polymer derived from quartz sand, these premium textiles offer inherent, best-in-class performance without requiring a topical finish, and are sustainably produced without the use of solvents or plasticizers.

For projects that aspire to impeccable beauty. Not only beautifully designed, these textiles are cleverly engineered to prevent stains and withstand robust cleaning.

For projects that long for a coated with the hand of a woven. These textiles have a built-in moisture barrier, which enables them to repel liquid while having a surprisingly supple texture.

All of our vinyl and polyurethane textiles come with a protective topcoat as a finish. These topcoats ensure superior stain resistance with no PFAS, and for many of our textiles enable resistance to ink, denim dye, or both simultaneously. Our silicone textiles are inherently stain, ink and denim dye resistant and do not require a topcoat.
